About Me

I am a literacy educator with a background in assessment and targeted reading instruction and intervention. I am passionate about working with students for whom reading poses a challenge and barrier to success. I believe the role of a literacy educator is to work both with students and other professionals to support the literacy needs of each child. With a grounding in the science of reading, I utilize diagnostic tools to assess a child’s strengths and where his/her needs are in order to drive instruction. Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of each student and are continually monitored in order to make necessary adjustments.

My Educational Journey

I grew up in a household of books and stories (see above circa 1995). My parents embraced storytime before bed both in reading and in telling. I grew to love reading and listening to stories. Mostly, I have always loved books-the paperback and hardcover kind that you can stack floor to ceiling on a huge bookshelf. But, as the language and concepts grew in complexity, so did my struggles in reading and keeping up with my peers. During these middle school years my own challenges with reading began to emerge. With a heavy dose of support and encouragement from teachers I came to see my strengths in order to circumvent weaknesses. Being that model, inspiration, and teacher for today’s students is my main motivator. To be the person to help students find their confidence as readers and young adults is a driving force. I am so excited to be in a position to guide others to see themselves as readers and comprehenders of the world.
